The Short Version
Peek is a menubar utility that shows your OpenAI API usage. Your API key is stored locally on your device in the macOS/iOS Keychain. We don't have accounts, we don't collect your email, and we don't have a server.
What Peek Stores on Your Device
- Your OpenAI Admin API key — stored in the system Keychain. If you enable iCloud Keychain, it syncs across your Apple devices. We never see or transmit this key to anyone other than OpenAI.
- Your preferences — polling interval, launch at login setting. Stored locally via UserDefaults.
What Peek Sends to OpenAI
Peek calls the official OpenAI API (/v1/organization/costs) using your admin key to fetch your usage data. This is a direct connection between your device and OpenAI. We are not involved in this request.
Anonymous Analytics
We use TelemetryDeck for privacy-friendly, anonymous analytics. This helps us understand which features are used and how the app is performing.
TelemetryDeck collects:
- A hashed, anonymous device identifier (not linked to you)
- Basic app usage events (e.g. app opened, feature used)
TelemetryDeck does not collect:
- IP addresses
- Names, emails, or any personal information
- Your API key or usage data
For more details, see TelemetryDeck's privacy policy.
Children
Peek does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above. For a menubar utility with no accounts, changes are unlikely.
